The Symphonic Orchestra of EEB1 was founded in 1976. It brings together an eclectic and dynamic group of young musicians aged 10 to 19 from all over the European Union. The orchestra’s main objectives are to give students the opportunity to make music of a high standard in a genuine orchestra setting, and to encourage an appreciation of classical music. The aim is also to have fun and to teach kids the benefits of working and playing as a group, with an emphasis on inclusion and mutual respect. The orchestra presents several concerts each year, including the Christmas concert, the Spring concert and the End of the Year concert.
THE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Since 2015 more advanced and motivated young musicians have been invited to join the Chamber orchestra, which is affiliated to the symphony orchestra of EEB1.
THE CONDUCTOR
Arman Simonyan has conducted the Symphonic Orchestra of the EEBI since 2003. Arman is a professional violinist and brings to the orchestra an infectious enthusiasm for music and a gift for developing young talent. Born in Leninakan, Armenia, he began his musical formation at the age of 4. In 2002, Arman graduated from the Moscow Conservatory P.I. Tchaikovsky. He has performed as a soloist with the Moscow State Orchestra, amongst others, and has played in music festivals all over Europe and Asia. Arman Simonyan also plays as a soloist and in various professional chamber orchestras.
THE ORCHESTRA TRIP
A main highlight of the orchestra year is the orchestra tour that has traditionally taken place during the first week of the Easter school holidays. Following a week-long intensive music camp, students present a series of concerts in the community where they are staying. Past tours have taken place in Portugal, Denmark, France, Poland, Italy, the Canary Islands, Germany, the UK, Belgium and Lithuania.
