ORGANISATION

Extra-curricular activities are organised by CESAME, one of the services managed by the Parents’ Association (APEEE), in the same way as the canteen and buses. They are not run by the school.

All nursery,  primary and secondary pupils whose parents have paid their APEEE membership fees (subscription) can register for extra-curricular activities.

REGISTRATIONS

Enrolments are usually made in September. The dates of the enrolment period are indicated here. However, it is possible to enrol at any time during the year provided places are still available. In that case, it is better to contact the CESAME office first.

You can enrol online by making an application in the ‘Extra-curricular activities’ section. You can consult the programme of activities here. The programme is posted online a few days before enrolments for activities begin in September.

An algorithm treats the attribution to extracurricular activities for nursery and primary pupils. We recommend that you enroll your child only to activities for which he or she is motivated. If your child wants only one activity, complete the choice 1 for which you can specify also 2 alternatives. If your child wishes 2 activities, complete the choices 1 and 2, then the 3 choices if he wishes 3 activities, etc…
For secondary pupils and swimming classes, registrations are on a “first come, first served” basis, you have direct access to the list of availabilities to register your child. Do not choose 2 activities taking place at the same time.

Places are assigned randomly by an algorithm.

Extra-curricular activities are not a childminding service. It is important for a child to be motivated to be signed up for an activity. Children also enjoy playing in the playground, so a maximum of 1 or 2 activities is enough.

When extra-curricular activities start in September, secondary pupils can try out the activity/ies of their choice. They do not have to be enrolled for the trial period.

As soon as the application is « pending » parents can modify or delete it. As soon as the application is ‘Being processed’, parents cease to have access to it and have to contact the CESAME office.

No priority is granted according to whether or not a child has already done a given activity.

Parents receive an email confirming enrolments.

Payment should be made by bank transfer with a structured reference as soon as the payment request is received.

THE ACTIVITIES

Extra-curricular activities mainly take place during the lunch break. Some also take place after school.

Extra-curricular activities take place on the school premises in rooms made available to the Parents’ Association.

Depending on the level, activities last for 1 hour, 1 ½ hours or 2 hours, and take place over 30 weeks on average.

In 1st and 2nd primary activities can be organised by term or by year. A new enrolment process takes place in January for activities organised by term.

Most of the activities are conducted in French, but most of the tutors also speak English and some of them speak another EU language.

Up to 12 children for a craft activity, and up to 14, 16 or 20 for a sport. Some music activities can only cater for a maximum of 6.

Apart from in special cases (fencing gloves, for example), materials and equipment are provided.

Secondary pupils’ lunch breaks are too short for them to eat at the canteen if they have signed up for a lunchtime activity. Pupils should therefore have a packed lunch.

Primary pupils do have time to eat at the canteen before or after their activity. They are taken care of by CESAME. Check out our Practical Guide if you want to learn more about the organization of the departure of the activities.

Changes of activity will be accepted free of charge before activities have begun. Once activities have begun, only one change will be accepted, subject to a EUR 10.00 charge.

For nursery pupils : a gathering is organized all year round with the instructors and a supervisor in Fabiola Hall.

For primary 1 and 2: the children meet with the tutors and one supervisor under the shelter in front of the primary gym all year round.
For primary 3, 4 and 5: for the first 2 weeks the children meet with the tutors and one supervisor under the shelter between the Erasmus and Da Vinci buildings.
Secondary pupils make their way to their activities on their own.

Contact the CESAME office to find a solution as quickly as possible so that the child can be put in the right direction and write a message in his or her agenda to let the teacher know.

OTHER QUESTIONS

Unless explicitly mentioned in the programme, all levels are accepted.

The teachers are given a list showing the pupils in their class who have signed up for extra-curricular activities.

CESAME examines all suggestions for new activities and acts on them where appropriate.

It is a tradition for CESAME to organise a party in mid-June to show off the results of the children’s work and to organise demonstrations of theatre, dance and sport activities. This gives parents the opportunity to meet the tutors.
