Here are 6 virtues of chess :
Knowing oneself "I develop my personality by playing chess. I learn to be objective first. You can only become a great player if you know your faults perfectly" - Alexander Alekhine, 4th World Chess Champion.
Chess is fun The virtues of the game of chess are numerous: memory, concentration, self-confidence... You will benefit from its numerous advantages by playing, and therefore simply by having a good time!
Improve your decision making In front of the chessboard, you are the only one in charge, and you have to play! The game of chess trains you to choose within a limited time, by analysing the advantages and disadvantages of the various possible choices.
Strengthening your perseverance The chess player tries, loses, bounces back, tries again, learns from his mistakes... then wins! This stubborn attitude is called perseverance, so important in life!
Have confidence in yourself A good shot or a won game considerably strengthens your self-confidence. Losses, far from being dramatic, help you to progress. And this strengthened confidence will be found outside the chessboard!
Progress in mathematics! Traditional games such as chess (...) stimulate logical reasoning and help to create or restore the pleasure of doing mathematics. They are excellent tools for decomposing numbers and practising reasoning. These are all skills that will help you in your school career!
Our chess workshops are held every Friday in periods 5, 6 and 7 on the 1st floor of the Pré-Vert building
